A map like this is possible, but something as big as this and something with as much detail and eye candy as you ask for would be very laggish to people with slow comp's.

I'm not saying it's not possible, but not very realistic.

Plus, the snipers would have a trigger happy time in a map with this size, unless it was all enclosed in thick jungle like terain.

that is what was saying before. Its possible to make a jungle map but it wont look and feel as lush and living as we see in FarCry. It would certainly lag most people, I would probably get fps around 20-40 compared to my usual 90 over.

well, thats really bad. So far, the Quake engine, with all the advancements TT has done to improve it still isnt designed for full open outdoor maps. The current set of maps may look like outdoors but they are enclosed by walls and buildings.

it is possible to make a realistic jungle map,

but to do this, the devs have to (study the jungle)
they should go to the library, and read all books about the jungle,

the devs have to find allot of information of:
-what plants grow in the jungle,
-what tree's grow in the jungle.
-why some tree's grow crooked
-why some tree's fall down,
-what common noises you hear in the jungle,
-why are there roots not growing on the ground,
-in wich place the moss grow, and why?
-how do a small little rock grow, and in wich erea's do they usually grow,

these things are crucial to know, if the devs want to have a realistic looking jungle map.

"edit"
oh they should also know how it looks when you shot a bullet at a tree/palm tree

and some devs that lives in the u.s.
they should visit Florida, or hawai,
im sure florida and hawai does have erea's thats almost simulair like a real jungle,
they should just check the remote erea's where theres is allot of nature,
sample some animal sounds, make pictures,
all these things are just for inspirations, so they can like get that jungle feel into the map,

what i also recommand is, to watch some classic hollywood movies,
like: Preditor, Rambo, casual war, ect. ect.
just some movies thats filmed in the deep jungle/rainforest,
just for some good inspirations,
"edit"

here watch this making of video:
the developers of this game studied thing about nature first,
before they created the imvironment,

EDIT

it dont have to be 100% realistic,
but it should be about 80% realistic,
and the remaining 20% could be fictional,
i dont mind that, and i think most people dont mind that too,

im sure with picture tone mapping, the jungle map could look something like this:
http://www.extremedigitalpro.com/extrem ... Jungle.jpg

it would be awesome if we can get that feel,

maybe it would look good,
maybe it would look ugly,

we will never know untill we see it,

but what im really sure is, and i think we all are,
is, that the devs will gain more game developing experience and skills,

Well, those were games on other engines. If you find a vid of a jungle map on the Quake3 engine, then we will believe.

its not about the engine,
its about that these developers gained theyre knowledge about nature first before they model things in 3D

my point is... the devs should study things about the jungle first,

No, it is ALL about the engine.

It's perfectly possible to make a realistic jungle map. The problem is that this isn't Far Cry. I don't think you would be able to make a map of the proportions you are asking for with a playable framerate.

Thats true. But the biggest issue with creating a map with any kind of organic life from other than the player is making it look real. Plants are really much harder to make compared to animals. Plants have so much more detail while an animal is one whole solid object. Imagine having to make each leaf look real.

Thats if you prefer mediocre looking leaves. Look at those, do real leaves look like that? They lack sharpness.

That picture isn't really "realistic".

If you're going for realism, then you better look at different graphics engines. :P

Lets just wait and see wether the improvements made on the ET engine will be capable of anything to make it seem better.
