hey i play 0.49b and i get 20-40 FPS.This is a problem for me

Im going to upgrade my computer soon.what should i upgrade??

PC- Compaq Presario

Processors - AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3200+ 984Mhz?

Display Adaptors *note*i think this is my graphics card.
ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series*256mb*

Ram - 448Mb Of Ram.

Upgrade Graphics Card and Ram upgrade to GeForce 7600 and upgraded to gig of ram and this game runs amazingly

Before you upgrade your graphics card, be sure your power supply can handle it. The first time I updated my graphics card I didn't even think about the power supply and ended up not being able to start my PC, and some how cooking my ram.

I don't know who much you know about PC's, so I am going to say this. Make sure you know what type of port you have for your graphicsa card. Is it an AGP, PCI, or PCI:E. Some of the really old PC's (Or ones bought from stores recently) can have only PCI slots, which is to old to get anything decent. The just plan old ones have AGP slots, which is fine for now. The more recent ones have PCI:E slots. Furthermore, there are two types of ram slots. 184 and 240. 240 is DDR2 ram, which is the newer and cheaper type. From the description of your PC I think you have plain DDR ram, which is 184. It cost about twice as mu(It cost more because DDR2 ram was cheaper to produce.

However, I would recommend a whole new PC over upgrading something thats to old to make it much longer. The reason why I say this is because your PC doesn't really have much room left to grow.

But before you get into to this, try to answer these questions please.

What watt power supply do you have? (This is the box in the back and on the top, in most cases. If you don't know, you can open your case and it should say it one the side, and is sometimes difficult to read because the tower is crammed.)

What type of slot do you have for a video card?

How much money do you have to spend (I ask this because I may be able to offer you some alternatives.)

Type of ram.

If you can answer this one, but not the others, it will help a lot. What type of socket is your processor? It should be 939, 747, or AM2.

You can find most of this stuff out by goggling the model of your PC, assuming you bought it from a retailer. If its a Acer, Dell, ect.... you can just Google the model, and the site should have most of the info. My old PC was a HP pavvalon2400, and all I did was have to Google it to find out its power supply info and what not.


For 200 bucks you can get the parts for a decent PC to build up, assuming you salvage the old stuff from your PC, like Hard Drive, CD/DVD drives, Keyboard, things along those lines. I just looked at the stuff, for 1 gig of DDR2 6400 ram, a AMD 4200+ dual core(A lot better than your sempron), a mother board with a integrated graphics card, 7025 which should be enough for TC:E. Along with a case/power supply. 480 watts, which is good enough for a 7900 or a 8600 Geforce to buy later. It would have a PCI:E slot for the newer cards.

The rest of the stuff you need should be in your current PC. For about 100-150 bucks more you can get a more than capable graphics card, and you will be able to play games like FEAR, Oblivion, and what not. After you get a graphics card. Or, you can spend 85 bucks on a 7600 and still play those games, but not as beautifully.

I build a lot of PC's for my friends, because I like hardware, I like hardware more than I like the games that they can play.

jumping on the upgrade your RAM and graphics card bandwagon. I'd also look at getting a new processor, there are some nice core2duo ones for around $150 I think.
