I know this is a repetitive question for you guys, but maybe a thread here can answer it once and for all.

So what brought TCE.net down? Was it excessive server load or as rumored, a DDOS attack?

If it's the latter, then I can certainly point out a couple people who had all the reasons to do it. If it's the former, then cheers to this mod's popularity.

It's nothing malicious. They are trying to remedy it and possibly look for another host.

In the meanwhile, let's cross our fingers the nasty bandwidth monster doesn't gobble this site :)

For all irony's sake, it was our site that was suppose to be offline due to bandwith problems then on the day of release, it is TCENET that went to florida for a weeks vacation.

Let me guess, the most of you are from TCENET huh? Well the thing is we dont know what really happened. But as far as I know, this wasnt exactly the first time that happened, they are probably having problems with their provider like last time.

I never even knew about TC.us or TCE.net until the TC.com forum went down.

As Diane as already already said it was nothing malicious. Just the fact we were too popular and our hosting co's SQL server couldn't handle the load. This is something we are working to fix :)

TCEUS is ran differnetly from TCENET. TC.COM and TCENET are the same. TCE and TCENET are just the nicknames we use here to differentiate the two sites.

Were not a backup, TCEUS is a different group all together. its like TCE Poland and TCE japan, they are country specific. In our case we are continental NorthAmerica. TCENET is the main international site.

Limiting graphics can also help a sites bandwidth extremely.
The size of avatars and signatures in kb can drasticly reduce the bandwidth. It does not mean you should be limited to a 20x20 pixel avater. But if you just limit the kb size that would help.
It even gets the graphics creators more imagination to work with the limited kb in size to see how well they can still create.
For example the website aaotracker.com limits their tracker banner to 15kb!!!
It seems a bit strict, but with some creativity you can still create some decent banners like these for example.

All five of these banners combined use as much bandwidth as the graghic displayed on the top of this page.
So, as I am suggesting to the webmasters, they can still limit bandwidth just by restricting the kb size in a file to the users. If you only limit the dimensions, you can still have a lot of bandwidth used just because some use animation the size of a small commercial to get there graphic displayed.

Also note, when linking to a graphic not on the site (hotlinking), you are using the websites bandwidth that is hosting the graphic. Use a appropriate image host like imageshack or photobucket to host your graphics to save this sites bandwidth.
None of the graphics I displayed use up any bandwidth on any website except the image host site, UNLESS the site requests that I upload the graphic to the actual site.
