Well, since my last forum post got absolutely no responses I doubt this one will either but it's definitely worth a shot if it means TCE's legacy can continue.

So the very talented people working on Enemy Territory: Legacy, an open source fix up and continuation of ET were asked that if they were given the source code for True Combat: Elite could they fix any issues and bring it officially to Enemy Territory: Legacy version of the engine with all the fixes and improvements it brings and they agreed to doing so.

So I ask, True Combat Elite was released 10 years ago, aside from early updates and fixes the project has been left on its own since then and hasn't received any support or updates since then, at one point the downloads went down and it was almost vaporware at that point. After all this time can we finally get the code into the hands of people who can fix it up and get it back into the limelight again because this mod is still unmatched by any game today and I would hate for it to be left in the state it's in now if it has a strong chance of its legacy being continued. This wouldn't be a "Continuation" of the game but at least any game issues would be addressed and it would be optimized to run like butter with ET:L's setup, that alone can make a big difference.

So too long didn't read, can whoever has the source code meet up with the people from ET:L and work out something so we can get TCE out there once again and all fixed up nice? Keep in mind, I am strictly talking about TCE here, we could bring CQB over as well but the focus would be TCE. This game NEEDS to be resurrected and I can't think of a better way of doing so other than the original team coming back

Thank you, hope this actually goes somewhere.

I was curious about the source too one time. To the best of my knowledge it's not gonna happen.

Also the once thriving TCE community during covid 1st wave in Discord has been shattered into multiple different Discord servers due to people not getting along with each other.

Maybe I don't know anything about anything but I find it odd that instead of giving your creation a chance in a modern era you're instead letting it rot and become obsolete.

Don't get me wrong, I get not wanting to just hand over your hard work to somebody else but we're talking 10 years after release in a very old branch of the engine with a dead playerbase. If it were my project and someone came along offering to not only fix it up and get it running on a more stable and improved engine so old players can enjoy it in higher fidelity AND get it into the hands of newer audiences then I would absolutely jump on that.

Who knows, maybe there's a more complex backstory to why coroner hasn't released it ever, maybe everything was overwritten for CQB and the original source doesn't exist anymore. No one knows except for the heads of the team but as it stands I don't think any official explanation has been given so we're just left to fill in the gaps and this doesn't help anything.

Communication is key.

Welp, guess the lack of any official response is the only response I guess I needed to know, TC:E will always remain in the state it is.

And that is truly sad. I miss this game.

I originally considered just leaving it as this and calling it a day but considering the forum is dead anyway I'm going to log in at the end of every month and reply to this thread because I cannot fathom this game being truly left to die as it has when the devs of Enemy Territory: Legacy have gone on record stating they would love to fix and maintain TC:E and bring it to a wider audience officially.

If you're an original developer and see this, let's save True Combat: Elite, the team behind Enemy Territory: Legacy want to maintain and keep this updated so that players can easily download and play it without hassle on modern operating systems. They just need to be put into contact with whoever holds the rights and source for TC:E.

Can you elaborate on that since I'm trying my best with what little contact information I have to reach out?

TC:E being resurrected hangs in the balance here.

It's getting interesting. Why are devs hiding, why they wouldn't even say "no". What happened with the devs? So many questions..

No one is hiding. There has not been an official version of TCE released since 2006, and the last update on any TC version (MWTC on CoD4) was in 2011.

People have grown, started families, advanced in their careers, etc. So it's not "hiding", it's just moving on. Many members of G6S and TT do not even frequent any TC related websites/forums/accounts anymore - except for maybe nostalgia - but those visits are too few and far between. :?

Some are stating that they just want an answer "yes" or "no" from dev regarding releasing the source code, but the answer has been "NO" for years. At what point do people stop asking/answering because it has - and will always be - no. It's depressing and a sad reality, but it's what it is. :wall:

I am sorry if I seem blunt, but this question has been asked countless times over the past few decades, and the answer has always been no. It is not going to change because there is a new project, engine and/or team, unfortunately. :(

It sucks (for me too because I personally would love to see CQB updated and further developed, etc.) but that is just the reality of the situation.

Sorry. :comp:

Let's remake it on UE5?

There have been some attempts at remake but you must remember that latest TCE was version 0.49 so far from being complete AFAIK.

It seems to me that gaming is already oversaturated with various FPS genere games, many of which are built on UE. Is there even a point to make "yet another FPS game"? As Diane said, devs have moved on and I think so is the playerbase. You could get some old TCE players to play your game, but still you'd have toget new players. Lastly no matter what you do, the old TCE farts still prefer the OG I am afraid...
Look at CQB for example, there were multiple new ideas but it didn't gain traction among players. You can still find this discussion here in the forums.

Food for thought:
Maybe just port over players favourite maps to some newer and somewhat similar game like CS:GO so people can enjoy the legacy of TCE in some other way?

Not sure where this remake talk came from, I'm putting forth that responsible and very talented people who are responsible for Enemy Territory: Legacy have made several statements that instead of letting TC:E remain in a broken, relatively hard to install state they said many times that they would love to maintain the code, provide fixes, and distribute it with ET:L to a wider audience of players with an easier install process. The same TC:E we all know and love but working better than before, functioning the same, and opening up the gates for more players to hop on it again.

I know many people have asked for the code before but the people who are doing it now have a strong resume behind them and a love for ET so it baffles me that a developer would purposefully kill their game and never give it another chance again. Absolutely *i-need-a-broader-vocab* mind-blowing bordering on stupidity or carelessness, you decide.

Edit: I didn't even mention that they were in talks to get ET:L on Steam, remember that TC:E greenlight page? Sounds like what I'm suggesting would put TC:E on Steam but now suddenly you don't want it on Steam? Was the greenlight page a scam? A joke? I don't understand.

What do I know, let your child die and rot.
