Recently, it was announced that Vivendi Games will release FEAR's multiplayer for free and are renaming it as FEAR Combat. It will be release on August 17 and all you need to play it is the rig and a game key which can be obtained by registering upon release. http://www.joinfear.com/us/

---------------------------------------------------------------------

It will be PB supported and have thirdparty content that is downloadable. I am not sure about modability yet. All in all, this could potentialy replace WolfET for better graphics and being free.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Although Im not quite sure abou gameplay, I have played it before, it wasnt that bad but it is more of insane running and gunning with a senseless tase for destruction armed with sh+t loads of explosives which can sometimes in one hit vaporize anyone in front of you. its like Quake with semi-modern-semi-scifi guns. The retail version's multiplayer didnt quite do that well, so who knows.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW, you all may think FEAR's AI is all powerful, its not it relies on the mappers design and the coders script to know wha to do. America's Army's AI is suppose to be much better by actually being dynamic and random and acts upon your actions properly utilizing their surroundings. AKA Military grade AI used for training simulation.

Lol, Quake 4 was sick. Like nasty gross sick. Expecially the opening video. It was kind of fun though, but the multiplayer was run and gun, no team orientation what so ever, and no obj.

Are you *i-need-a-broader-vocab* kidding about FEAR's AI???

Dude, they've scripted very little of the AI. If they scripted it all, there must be hundreds of different scripts they all follow by.

I tried something with FEAR...

I started a level with the intentions of a stealth approach (Like sneaking up and slide kicking them) And it could never happen because once they noticed me, they *i-need-a-broader-vocab* flanked me and nearly killed me.

I then decided to play the level again with an Assault-like approach. I did so and the AI proved to be very difficult to maneuver around.

didnt I just say that it is scripted to use the maps made by mappers. basically saying they may look smart in the original maps but on thirdparty maps, they are completely pathetic and useless.

The multiplayer isnt exactly tactical realism but good anyway, plus who know a mod might do wonders for it.

AWW MAN, Xeno! I was just about to start this very same topic!
But yeah, F.E.A.R. Combat is gunna be awesome (too bad it releases just shy of the LAN party at my house, which is Saturday ). Not that it's a real big deal, but one of the cooler things about F.E.A.R. multiplayer is that when you are spectating you can actually push objects around like your a ghost haunting the place. This just might be the best free multiplayer games on the web once it launches.

I thought FEAR SP was pretty good, but MP was just a waste of time.
I mean if you're a big fan of Quake 3 style madness run and gun at 100 mph you may like it.

I didn't.
I can perfectly understand how it is possible that the MP element of FEAR tanked. There's also an expansion called FEAR:Extraction Point. Don't know about that one.
Overall, I think this game is a perfect example of over marketing and over hyping. It just didn't really live up to the hype. Releasing a free game to the public to me is very, very, very suspect.
I don't see FEAR:EP doing anything much better. Who knows?

I like team oriented, tactical games.

It is hard to find them in MP.

Joint Operations is pretty close to this.
BF2 can sometimes get close, but not that often.

GR can be pretty good with the right people.

Anyway, I will probably try this because it's free. And perhaps maybe someone can use it as an engine for modding.
Thanks for the heads up.

it will support mods, meaning.. realism is only a dev team away. The hard part is putting together a dev team... :? where do we get those? dunno. Devs dont grow on trees. (they grow in incubators and ar activated at the age of 21)

You probably did, I just didn't bother reading your entire post. (Because I didn't take my Methylphenidate before I went on the internet. Which explains my randomocity. :P)

Damn, you have any idea how pissed FIleplanet made me. I downlaoded it from Filefront and it was much faster with zero waitline. As for the torrent tnoone seems to be seeding at the time I tried downloading. Well ifinally have it, and am just prepping for install.

13% downloaded. This is going to take all day.

I'm trying filefront. Seems a lot faster already. Should take about an hour or so instead of the 7 offered by the torrent.

edit: Installing now...

edit2: My video card is unsupported. Of course.
