If I knew how to use GTK Radiant map editor and had all the textures, I would make a jungle-like map on any free time I have.

I would then be able to measure the possibilites of making this jungle map.

which arent quite good. I dont even need to map it to know it wont look good. Again, the Quake3 engine and all the current idSoftware engines except the 3rd version of Doom3E with megatexture are designed for indoors and urban maps only. Thats why indoor TCE maps look awesome even when they are poorly made thirdparty maps. But all the outdoor non-urban maps are rather bad and have very poor framerates.

Have you tried dem_urwald it comes up as Junglecamp by wiesel when you go to it ingame. The map is small and dark but you get the jungle feel.

thats where people must stay still or get killed when I get my hands on a sniper rifle. But I never really liked that map as it really does support spawn camping and spawnkilling being a small and open map that it is.

Thats if you prefer mediocre looking leaves. Look at those, do real leaves look like that? They lack sharpness.

IMO the leaves look really sharp to me, matter of fact, it looks perfect,
especially if it whas made for an outdated engine,
trust me im a neat freak / perfectionist,
and if i say it looks perfect, than i really mean it looks perfect...

it looks like it is a BOB ROSS's paint drawings, very artfull looking tree's and leaves.

Well, if thats what you think, theres nothing we can do about it. Personally I dont like the trees in the ET engine or any Quake based games. They actually drag down the fps alot while there low detail and lack of proper shader make them hard to see through. Its like looknig at a wall instead of leaves. In real life, if you hide in a bush, you can still see whats going on outside, but in the game hiding in a bush is like cover your eyes with masking tape and the olny place you can see through is the tiny gaps.

that problem is very easy to fix,
like what many games did,
make the plants transparent evrytime you infront of them,
maybe not extremely realistic thing to do,
but its pure for the gameplay, gameplay is as importent as realism.

i think the devs dont have to worry about the detailed looking tree's and leaves, TT has some talented mappers, or they could always hire someone whos good at making realistic nature map's,

the main thing that the devs have to focus when they wanna make a jungle map, is studying the jungle, read books about the jungle,
-what kind of plants exist in the jungle,
-what kind of tree's grow in the jungle,
-what kind of noises will you hear when you in the middle of the jungle,
-in what kind of places does moss grows
-how does a small little rock grow,
-ect. ect.

and the second thing the devs have to focus is:
-the textures, like realistic looking grass and stuff.
-tiny little animations, like tree's moving left and right,
-just to give you the illusion that theres some wind on the map.
-dynamic things, like plants moving a little bit evry time you move pass them.
-the flexibility of the twigs and leaves, grass,
make it look less "stiff"

but what i really advice is, to hire someone that specialise himself in modeling nature, like small little animals, tree's leaves, realistic looking water ect. ect.

besides the modeling, he has to be good with animations and coding too,
it makes things more easier,

the thing is they make this game out of their free time. Meaning, got got jobs to do. As you should know they have a lack of active members and probably just one coder. So, none of them have time to read about the jungle just to make a map. They have thier won lives to get done themselves. The only way for this to work out is if some third party mapping team decideds to create it, and if TT likes it, they might invite you to their tema as mappers then making your map official.

the thing is, there arent many skilled 3rd party mappers,
you can recruit 40 3rd party mappers,
and theres a big chance the map still look like shit,

its better to have 2 or 3 talented skilled mapper, than to have 40 unskilled mappers.

and i really dont need to explain why.

did I say the third party mapping team had to be 40 unskilled people? I didnt even mention a mnumber or what kind of person. I just said that the only way this will ever be done is when someone or some group makes a really good map and attracts TT's attention.

what would you do if a 3rd party mapper/3rd party maps got in the official release... oh, wait I think there is one...

jungles lag, quake trees suck, let's move on.

Well, ... 8) right...

What would a terrorist team be terrorizing in a jungle anyway?

It would still be better to put it in a beach resort with some important people, e.g. the president. The resort can then be an enclosed space with the background looks of an island jungle. Ofcourse, you cant go to the jungle but it will still feel like it. This map can be a VIP and hostage rescue mission. It should have civvies that you mus'nt harm and a VIP you must extract alive. The terrorist would then have to stop you from doing any of that. And they also need the hostage alive so they cant harm them either or use them to camp.

yep. hey, wait, there is a beach resort.

problem solved 8)

if you tell your BF/GF/hubby/wife you're cheating, that's honest. if they're awake, that's stupid.
if you find a wallet with $1000 in it, and you return the wallet, that's honest. if you return the $1000, that's stupid.
if you admit to a cop you've been smoking pot, that's honest. if you OFFER him some.

Problem Solved

The TCE maps are better off left in urban situations besides that is what the Quake3 engine was designed for in the first place.
