Post subject:  (concept idea)use weopon while climbing the ladder

if the developers add this feature in the game,
it will be revolutionary in the gaming scene!!!

ok i got this idea for climbing on the ladders.

if i climb on the ladders,
i want to be able to still use my weopon and shoot.

you can aim/shoot left-side, by pressing the left arrow key,
you can aim/shoot on right-side, by pressing the right arrow key
you can aim/shoot down below/backwards, by pressing the down arrow key.
evrytime you press one of those arrow keys,
you will be in A "ready to shoot" locking position,
to unlock yourself from that position just climb up or down.

this is actually being discussed, but the ladder boxes in the .pk3's allow you to use the arrow keys to move around on them I could see drawing your sidearm near the top of a ladder, maybe in the middle, but your range of motion would have to be blocked to 90 degrees right, 90 degrees left, then the same for up and dwn. but I think that the half-life ladder idea when it comes to climbing would be a good idea. when you run into the lader, you can go up. but to go down, you need to "use" the ladder.

and as always, these keys would need to be re-mappable, I know a few (idiots) that use the arrows for movement. they're the ones that run out of ammo in a firefight then can't reach the key to switch to thier sidearm in time.

that should be implemented, like i said, when your on a ladder your technically a sitting duck with both winds tied to yuor back (in the ladders case, hanging on the ladder)

this is actually possible,
i whas playing ET:pro last night,
and i whas on a costum map,
where you can climb on tree's, while shooting,
maybe couldnt shoot left right, backwards, up & down.
but the point is, that could still shoot while climbing.
so this features must be possble to implent in the game.

but the thing is, you cnat hold on to the gun with both hands while your climbing, so, the method in ET is incorrect. A person needs both hands to climb, then stops to shoot with only one hand. In ET, you can shoot and climb.

yess.. you should only shoot with 1 hand,
thats more realistic,
but when your use rifle with 1 hand while climbing,
the should swing a little bit with your rifle,
because in real life, when your holding a rifle with 1 hand,
you probably would swing the rifle a little bit,
a rifle is kind of heavy when you just hold it with 1 hand,

*edit*but it should "NOT" swing when your using a pistol.*edit*

you still have to maintain both hands as you climb. You should only be able to shoot with one hand, but you cant climb at the same time. You can slide down though, but supposing your climbing a ladder. If you were climbing something else, like a pipe, you probably need both hand and feet to get a good grip at it.

yess, when your climbing, and when you press the ,left,right,up,down, arrow key.
than you should stop moving, because if you press one of those arrow keys,
you automaticly get locked into a ready to shoot/aiming position.

if you wanna climb up again, then just press "W" the forward button.

these are all good but the MD3 animation system is just too limited to that kind of complex animation. What is need for that is the MD4 skeletal animation system which was only used for a few Quake3E based games than later scrapped. MD4 is still available, but I dont know if its possible to activate it without resorting to having to port the whole game over to a modified Quake3TA engine that has MD4 enabled. That could easily be done with MD5 from D3E or Valve's SourceE own animation system, but with Q3's MD3 systems, its not that easy.

i've never seen this feature in any other FPS game though,
so it would be a major break trough in the FPS gaming scene, if this is done in TC 0.49.

Probably not for 049, 050, or even version 1.00, but it should be implemented when they make TC2 on the Doom3Engine. It would be good if they used a GPLed version of the engine by that time so that it wouldnt be a mod but a true "free" game that is standalone.

the climbable trees are simple. put a ladder box on a tree, and voila! I'ts on AE sniper challenge (which is fun with jaymod and panzer war XD) and a few other maps. I think that you SHOULDN'T be able to use your rifle when climbing because you would e way too inaccurate, and IRL, you'd probably drop it. (I remember trying to hold a C8 with one hand. I failed miserably.)

AE sniper challenge, yup, I got alot from there, frags that is, not bullets in my head. With the new free climb system in 049, you should be able to shoot because free climb can only be done with low objects but you normally wouldnt be able to jump over.

it's best with panzer war and low gravity, it's hilarious to see 10 people launching rockets and jumping the big gap in the middle.

Full version? its been out for like years now. Some people hide from below the map, I usually hide behind the rocks facing the wire and waiting for anyon dumb enough to cross. I can still make moving target headshots perfectly. :lol: Theres a similar map in TCE I forgot what its called. Its an island surrounded by crystal clear blue water and sandy beaches. There are two hills with buildings on top with lots of windows plus up to 4 paths of getting across. Its awesome for a BC game with snipers. It needs some bloom effect on the lighting to make it feel more real.
