ventrillo voice or teamspeak,
should be A part of TCE,
it should be implented in the game,
so you dont have to download it anymore, because its allready in the game,

oh, and if theres no "shout-chat" than i want "hand-signals"
http://www.truecombat.us/forums/viewtop ... 86&start=0

because i want something in the game that makes people communicate easily

the problem with global chat is, if you want to tell someone something real quikly, than you have A big problem,
especially in difficult situations when your surrounded by enemy's

if you type something like "come here" in global chat,
than nobody knows who your talkin to,
unless you type his name "Players name" come here,
but by the time you finnished typing his name, he's probably gone,

thats why we need something like "whisper chat" or "hand signals"

by free i mean free to download and use but you cant reverse engineer it to integrate it into another program without their permission. They could get some programmers who can create something like that create an original voicechat system built in into the ET engine. Ofcourse that would require you to have to rewrite the engine code.

(BTW, the Quake3 engine is now under GPL, why stay as a mod if you can go for full original game made from a fresh engine from the ground up.)

for talink to 1 person, open the console and do /m<playername> <message>

or, better yet, if there is someone you always play with, so /bind <key> /m<playername>, it then allows you to type your message (I think, need to look it up again.

*edit* oh yeah, to put another thing like teamspeak as an integrated feature would mean that the devs could (and more than likely would) be sued.

their might be a problem with binding, there are some servers that dont allow bound commands that arent part of the original game / mod.

**excuse my spelling**I supose that it would be useful to have a function so you could say stuff to your team near where you last died and ONLY team in or entering the area befor you next die would see it...it would be useful like 'enemy camper behind binbags'

it would make more people download it as it wouldnt need all the downloads also easier to avitize eg 'have you played TC:E its like **what ever game forum posting in** and its one download

that would be better, instead of a mod, its a full free game. too bad that is just so much work. The files and source codes for al the older idSoftware engines can be downloaded from their public FTP server

ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/source/

Integration of a voice chat system will have to be done from the engine source (also means rewriting the whole thing) i think, you cant just copy and paste it into the game's (not the engine) source code.

An in-game comm's system would only cause lag, and some people get enough of it already.

they could have an option that you can turn off the sound of the comm system in your own pc so that it doesnt load them for you anymore.

yer gonna blast me for referencing RuneScape, but it's an important point...

in RS, chat dissapears after about 5 seconds. thre have been MANY times where people have typed @@@@@@@@@@@ to block out your HP bar when fighting a high leveled monster.

five seconds is enough time for an enemy sniper to spot you and kill you/your entire squad, and the chat would block out his position.

but you cant see the text message/or the player's name
from a long distance, your name included your text message,
is only visible when your, lets say 4/5 meters away from the person thats typing the text.

shout chat is really usefull in times where you just need to type something quikly with out typying who you talking too. same with hand signals.
