HE HAS FINALLY SEEN THE LIGHT !

Coroner, come over to the darkside, UE4 haz da nomnomz.
The lightning on this is incredible and they made a whole lot of things much easier than in
UDK. In UE3 we used code for the menus, in UE4 we can even do without... There is even
a 'hack' around for those pesky lightmaps.

The source is only available to subscribers btw. Doesn't matter if you subscribe only once
(1 month) or if you keep the subscription running (handy for any updates to the code +
many freebies). All I can say, a subscription doesn't cost a lot and is well worth the
purchase. One of my team members even downgraded his phone subscription to cover
the UE4 subscription.

Unreal Tournament is IMHO not the place to start modding, the FPS template would be a
better place to start. Although, my approach to the whole thing is still : from scratch, anim,
guns, menu etc. The only thing that might be stock code is the game modes like team
deathmatch etc.

YKS : changing the code to fix that issue isn't the problem, compiling to OS other than
Windows is...

OverDose is a combination of id2/rtcw/doom3/q4 & some of there own goodies

But yes :) - ( i was talking about the 'port' of obj_closecombat and not the engine) I see no real reason to switch to UDK when id still has a lot to offer.

Also, I can confirm OverDose is an option available to Coroner should he want to use there Engine.

Since you guys look a little desperate ( me included ), here's something you might like.

http://www.blackfootstudios.com/project/ground-branch/

New Infiltration like game based on the UE4 engine. I started playing TC back in 2002 then moved on to Infiltration in 2003. There really hasn't been anything good since. Don't get me started on what a $#&&* Arma is. One of the developers was Beppo from Infiltration ( not sure if he's still involved or not ), so it should be a pretty decent game. Very small group, but so was TC and Inf. Supposedly, there's going to be a public alpha released soon.
These new games like BF and Arma just don't have the imagination, grit, and realism that the old games do. Hopefully, Ground Branch can bring it back.

Very promising news are that Epic started a community-open development of a free (as in free) Unreal tournament for Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) as some kind of showcase/example application. This game will be moddable and expandable and might be a basis for a new Truecombat. The complete source of UE4 is assesable for developers as will be the source of the new Unreal tournament.
Thus maybe 15 years after TC on Quake 3, there might be a new option for a new code base.
As some of you might know, I got my hands a bit dirty in UDK already and UE4 appears like a furhter step forward in any respsect.

Hey Coroner, maybe you and the other devs should give the Blackfoot people a call. Might save you from having to start from scratch on a new engine. It would be AWESOME to see the TC and Inf developers combine their talents! You guys really thought a lot alike.

"Switch to another engine" crowd is missing a few points:

- CQB is already "complete"
- Engine improvements are possible and a few people are interested in implementing them
- TC:E community devs are fluent in IdTech3 (OR W:ET engine) and probably have a ton of material to port into CQB
- some 3rd party devs are in standby mode (such as myself) waiting for something to happen

So, instead of creating a game from scratch, yet again, why not just compile an unlocked CQB which can be improved upon, release after release?

I agree with Damien.
Also with CQB on idtech3 (or idtech4) everyone can play even with a poor computer.
A unlocked release version of CQB is is crucial but i think that coroner have also to approve and validate all contributions to maintain the high quality.

This is useful ? http://store.steampowered.com/app/257400/
It say it can be exported and also work on source engine.

FBX could be handy, but still not really that useful for TC/CQB :(

Regarding additional model support, Unreal .psk and .psa and iDTech .md5 have been implemented in several iDTech3 engine projects which are open-source, so..

TC doesn't really need an elaborate player creation system, only a few distinctive characters per match which can be achieved with a few unique models, easier to create accessories and various player skins. Just look at how many different characters we've got from a single body and head model in TC.
We're not playing an MMORPG here.

It's the industry standard nowadays for both static and skeletal meshes.....
EVERY decent program uses this file format (facepalm)

Damien, PSK/PSA is not supported anymore, so pretty much a bad idea to use.

Here, have a look at this http://assimp.sourceforge.net/
If you look at ETxReal code then it's pretty clear where to insert this on a vanilla version.
