hey, so this weekend whilst browsing the internetz for some TC:E gameplay footage to show during a job interview I came across this really awesome port of stadtrand to minecraft. check it out.

I put quite a lot of hours into minecraft, so it was really fun for me to see this creativity and bringing to life a TC:E classic. good stuffs!

What about block map like in minecraft and that u can also shoot :P

that's great, man! I worked on this level for at least 9 months if memory serves correctly. the original level that stadtrand was based on was made by h0rst-ds I think it retained a basic skeleton structure, althought many parts were altered or see a different use due to the main layout challenges. the tools at the time were redicuous, if anyone one is familiar with the 'mapmodels' that were in my folder, I think about 90% of the work in there was made for this level and the models were made in milkshape 3d, a real nightmare to work with.

i love minecraft, it's super quick to shape the world around you, it's pretty much the dream of any level designer. it's a cool idea to have a first person shooter in it, I was checking out luka's links earlier, that's pretty amazing!

if there's any chance you can send me files of this level, sjors dot janssen at rotorgames dot nl, it would be really cool to just have and get nostalgic about in a couple of years time ;)

People tend to forget it was the simplicity of the game that attracted many players.

The moment you lose that element, that's when it gets boring.

I remember when Urban Terror and True Combat were first released. They didn't have many weapons or features but what made it loads of fun was the simplicity.

yeah, you make a good point there, Stealth. it's funny because in essense very little has changed in first person shooter core concepts apart from the level design in the past 15 years.

A slighty offtopic post.
I am an old True Combat: Elite 0.48 player and I have recently been playing Urban Terror. My all times favourite Tc:e map has always been Northport (from .48) so I decided to port it to Urt. I wanted to be faithful to the original. The process turned out to be relatively easy after I found a .map file in the stealthzone.net repository. :P All that needed to be done was to fix up and repackage textures/shaders, swap Tc:e entities for Urt ones and rewrite skybox and ocean shaders. The problem is that I haven't found a way of contacting Race to ask if what I'm doing is ok. So I am asking here. :P Here is a gallery and a short vid:

I'm sorry but you did not find na official map file on my repository. You may have found an MDK map for an example. I'm also a mapper and would never share a fellow mapper's map file without permission. If so, it was done inadvertently. I will take it down if you point it out to me.

Well, it's under this link. I figured it wasn't such a big deal since the .48 version of the map (among others) had already been ported to 0.49 and it stayed up on your semi-official (I guess :P) repository. Moreover nobody plays .48 anymore I think, so the map is dead. It would be nice to be able to revive it for a little.

Looks like nantoka90 wrapped this up for mappers with a red flagged bow.

The .map file is not suppose to be in that .pk3.

Thanks. Looks like nantoka90 is from the Japanese community. I wonder if he had any luck contacting Race. Probably just decompiled the map though.

It's sad only players who I never ever see online say people don't play TCE anymore. Almost every day around 7-9PM GMT (or so) you can have a nice game. I know you live in a totally different timezone than most players, but PEOPLE STILL DO PLAY TCE.
