Post subject:  rip-off of a disciplinary idea

I just felt like posting this, partly to procrastinate, parrtly because it might work.

for certain offenses, how about temporary bans? something that depends on the severity of the rule broken. after enough offenses (I'd say about 3 weeks of total ban time) you get the perma-ban.

Hard to say Yes or No right off the top of my head, so I'm holding my vote for now.

Temp-banning someone like Dragon might just encourage him to flame more. Just a thought.

my logic is this: he doesn't want to get banned. if he gets banned for, say, a week, there are three options
a) he comes back, and stops breaking the rules, or at least makes it stay in the lighter grey area
b) he comes back after the ban, gets pissed, breaks the rules (LUEscides), and gets banned.
or
c) re-registers, ban is extended, or made permanent.

I say it's a rip-off because a similar system is working for Something Awful, and I think it works pretty well.

Meh, I don't want to think about it at this very moment, for multiple reasons.

1. I'm a dedicated procrastinator.
2. I'm tired.
3. I'm freaking tired.
4. Shanna is moving back to Michigan... never to see me again, damnit all!
5. I generally feel like sh*t right now (see reason #4)

I'm with you on all but #4. but replace that with being stuck with writers block on an english assignment (it's 12:43 AM here. I got 4 hours of sleep last night. I will get about that much tonight, too.

Nothing is really working with Dragon, he will continue insulting everyone on the forums believing he is the smartest person in the world drowning in his own ego. All we can do is control his, we cant stop him, only Diane or Trauma can do something that will be written on stone.

I think, at least personally, that a temporary ban would work for dragon. if he gets the point, and waits it out, then he might stop trolling. if he re-registers and begins trolling with a new account, he gets a permanent ban.

I don't know yet. I am thinking of changing the forum from PHPBB2 to Vbulletin as it seems better and incidentally it has a temp ban option.

Plus, moderators can give members infractions for any troll post. If they reach a certain level, it temp bans then auto etc.

Sounds reasonable. If we need to back up some important stuff just give us a holler and we'll come to the rescue.

I'm vine with vBulletin. and warning levels would make it a ton easier to manage.

I know you can limit guests from forums and stuff. it also has post tags, making tech support easier!
