Very old topic, tbh. Of course it would be cool. But it's not possible/legal as long as ET isn't open source.

You can go straight to TCE without going into ET
you just don't have your shortcut line parameters set correctly.

Yeah, and if you want to do that. Just go to tcetest located in your Wolfenstein Enemy Territory Folder and go to tcetest and create a shortcut and put it on you desktop. It's just that simple. :D

Give the engine couple more years to mature and it will be its own game.

Lol, umm, if TC:E is still modded off ET in a few years, it's still going to be a mod.

Has bee said before.. Ill say it again; Cor doesnt want TCE's code to be released as opensource or GPL by using the GPLed Quake3 engien. Using that GPLed Q3 engine means that TCE will be its own game but it means peole are allowed to use your codes. TCE has developed into something no Quake3 based game has ever reached. TCE's graphic quality and features are unique to it among other Quake3 games - TCE will remain as a mod until the devs decide that they nolonger have to protect there code and it has served it's purpose for them.

if ET goes open source, then I"m sure TC:E woud eventually follow.

but if you installed everything default, and are a windoze user, you'll see a TC:E icon on your desktop.

Opensource

ET is opensource. The sourcecode and game can be modifed freely and mods can be distributed aslong as "ALL PLAYERS THAT WILL BE USING THIRD PARTY CONTENT MUST HAVE W:ET INSTALLED AND COMPLY WITH THE W:ET EULA" (just to make it more visible and give impact - nothing really personal)
In short they can modify the parts of the code under the EULA of the opensourced content
- only the game source code is opensource
- the engine (Quake3) is not even though Q3E has been GPLed for years now, the Q3E used in W:ET is NOT under opensource or GPL. So the GPL conditions only apply on engine-only versions of Quake3Engine not the games that use it.

----------------------------------------------------

GPL

GPL (general public license) - This means that the data, in software, graphics, or audio or even documents are freely available to anyone and can be freely distributed by anyone "ALL GPL CONTENT CAN BE USED AND MODIFIED BUT NOONE CAN PROFIT FROM ANY CONTENT UNDER THE GPL LICENSE (not even the creators)" In this case, idSoftware released the Quake3 engine under GPL license, this means people not only have the option of using the engine to make their own standalone games they also ahve the liberty to modify the engine in anyway they want AS LONG AS THEY DONT MAKE MONEY OUT OF IT.

In TCE's case, TT has some relevant highend codes that they want to keep secret to themselves on how they were able to make TCE look so good using an engine that doesnt. If they used the Q3E GPL, they are risking the code be used and claimed by some other scum sucking third rate coder. They have a bigger purpose for TCE thats just it, wait until that pupose has been acheived till they even think about doing GPL.

-----------------------------
-----------------------------
-----------------------------

In short - freeware, opensource, and GPL are not the same things. Believe me I know what I am talking about I dont play these freeware games for just the fun of it.

-----------------------------

Dont take this attack-like thread personally, it is just to inform those who still havent got the whole idea behind releasing opensource sourcecodes for modders (not developers, they do the same things but work on existing code) and GPLed engines for aspiring developers (not modders - by developers I mean full game not base game code to modify)

do I have to say it again. you cant make TCE install as part of the ET package. Redistributing ET with mods as a whole package separate or not but aslong as you install one and the otehr gets installed too that is agaisnt the EULA. -you can redis the game in its original state and separately distribute a mod.

I think you're getting used to saying that Xeno.

If you made any mistakes that time you posted it, you could always revise it for the next time Dragon brought it up.

you always say, "you cant"
like i suggested that the shells could be more rounder,
you said its impossible, possible but it would cause laggs,

but it was actually possible,"without causing any laggs" so never say you cant.
