ive this idea to spread the popularity of this mod when 0.49 is released,

now if someone wants to download this mod,
they have to enter 5 e-mails of theyre friends,

something like this:
Image

if all the file white boxes are filled with theyre friend's email,
than they are able to download the files,

if they didnt filled the 5 emails, they a pop up appears on theyre screen,
with this message:

YOU HAVE TO FILL IN 5 EMAILS!!.

something like that, just a a raw example, dont take it litterally

now all the people that received the e-mail, will see something like this in theyre mail box:

[] FREE SHOOTER GAME: TRUE COMBAT 0.49

if they open the post,
they will see some screenshots of 0.49,
and maybe some demo video's

and on the end of the post, they will see this
Image

but to do this, the devs have to bundle the files
and make it look like its a stand alone effect:

read this.. stand alone effect:

programming / user-friendly intuitive interface

remember, dont take my idea's too litterally,
there are thousends of different methods,
but its about the concept, i whas just suggesting some basics, so the devs can improve my suggestion even better.

no.

it would actually REDUCE fanbase, because some people
a) are too lazy to get E:mail
b) think it would lead to spam.

I know I'd be nervous (and, hell, I don't know any friends who are really into FPS, they all suck at 'em, or prefer other games)

its a free game,
devs making this game for free, wich im really thankful for,
but if you dont even want to fill 5 emails so you can downlaod this free game,
than i think you can f.ck off!!

and i dont mean to offend you.

I KNOW from EXPERIENCE that stuff like this was made (and is used 99% of the time) for spam. I feel uncomfortable sending off five of my friends e-mails.

maybe e-mail for verification, but then again, this is all up to the mirrors. I got all my TC:E stuff from RTCWfiles.com (and used the filefront mirror) and there are still tons of them.

also, what about people who don't know five different peple VIA e-mail (i.e. me, before I started cyberschooling) they would more than likely just put thiers in first.

again, this is all up to the mirror, and since (upon last count) 20 mirrors hold the "setup-0209-full.exe" file, that is 20 peple to deal with for ONE file. not to mention patches, maps etc.

Dragon, your heart is in the right spot - but in this case I don't think a feature like that would work.

For me personally, I always avoid DL links that make me refer ppl or sign up (or do anything except download)

You are right, the dev doesn't get paid for this. Therefore, although we would like to have a large player base, we don't need to "force it on" people.

The best advertising is word of mouth. IMO that is way more effective (telling your friends that you have to try this kick ass game) instead of receiving spam saying so.

I dont think most people would want that, thats like dictatorship for a game. As for my address book, besides people who cant download because of bad and slow connection or they are just girls who definetely dont play this kind of game.

seriously, this can be optional but never force anyone to do it. those email addresse are private information and by law you cant force anyone to give it to you unless you require it for purposes other that promotion of your product.

I don't like this idea either.

It seems like a rather spammy way to do it, and I know if I was spammed about a game, I would be less likely to play it. I get enough spam as it is.

Word of mouth is the way to go here. It would be much better to mention it in a thread on one of your favorite forums.

but this method can get you thousands of new players in 2 month, maybe millions,

just imagine that, its gonna be way more popular than some other commercial games.

it will, that is if the people who are forced to enter the emails dont get turned off and go away. Like myself, I dont have anyone on my address book who is suitable to be invited for TCE. Most of them are either not able to access big downloads like this, or they just dont play games. Like how many girls do you think play TC/TCE besides Diane? The only ones who play free online shooters like this and AA are those with a good internet connection and presumably plays pc games especially FPS.

DEVS READ THIS ATTENTIVELY

the thing is, advertising the word of mouth is extremely slow,
allot of commercial games advertise theyre game on television,
because that works more faster than advertising word of mouth,

and this method is even more effective than advertising on television, paying thousands or maybe million dollars just to advertise your game 5 seconds on television.

it gives an instant popularity boost,

i dont think it will be turned off, cause its a free game,
if the devs asked people to pay for this game, or download the free 5 day demo/trail, than you can say that people will get turned off,

but a free awesome game? i dont know,
i think allot of people dont mind typing some e-mails to get the files freely,

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
this is a alternative paying method,
just think about it,

if the devs wanna make some big CA$H/money,
the main goal is to get millions of new players for the player base,

than allot companies will be intrested to sponsor this mod,
trust me,

read this thread, SPONSORS:
http://www.truecombat.us/forums/viewtop ... 93&start=0

you cant get sponsors if this game has a player base of just 450/500 people,

no companies will be intrested in sponsering a game with a small tiny little player base.
you need thousands and millions of players thats playing this game often.

than there is a big chance allot of companies will be intrested in sponsoring this mod, and give the devs some big ass KACINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ "cash/money"

and if the devs gonna get payd allot of money/cash,
the devs can buy some more new professional dev tools, dev equipments,
motion capture equipments, professional game dev softwares, ect. ect.

just imagine that, we will be playing some kick ass free game mannn that rocksssssssssss

We aren't developing this game for $$ and glory. If that were the case, TT (which has been around since 2001) would have long given up.

We won't support spam of this mod. I personally hate referral emails (a friend has invited u to sign up for some site etc) and get angry when my inbox is filled with such spam. I can only imagine it's the same for other people.

If you personally feel the need to email your friends to tell them about TCE, that is your choice and you are free to do that. But we will not force that upon people and make it mandatory. Looking at the situation realistically, I feel that we will lose more players than gain.

P.S. Dragon, you were banned from the tc.com forums, please stop reregistering under aliases to post there. It's quite annoying.
