I wonder if there is A (software tool / game source code )
that reduces or camoflouge the cutting edges in the game,

and even if you got A advanced 3dcard inside your computer,
and even if have put all your graphic setting to the highest resolution,
you still see those annoying cutting edges in the game.

forgive me if i sound stupid,
but i whas just curious if its possible to reduce the cutting edges in the game,

and i wanted to discuss about this issue, with you guys

Oh we're flattered.

Cutting edges are in every game no matter how good your graphics card may be.

And if that annoys you more than n000bs, then I don't think it's the cutting edges that need to be removed, it's you. :P

somehow...
it is possible to have smooth graphics in A game,
with no single cutting edges,

try this game --> http://www.kalonline.com/
its free,

you will notice that that game has some clean looking graphics,

just make sure you change things in the game settings,

turn gloom off,
that will remove the blurry screen,
the devs did that blurry thingy on purpose, it sepose to be an art style.

its called antialiasing and any video card has that option but to different degrees of smoothness. it can be turned off from the video card controls. Turning off other features requires advance config tweaking that im very sure you dont want to know how. it isnt easy and it isnt recommended that anyone be tweaking those files in the first place. If you havent heard peopel have played HL2 and Doom3 on a voodoo card by simply tweaking the configs. they made the games run of cards they dont supports, cards from 6-7 years ago from the game's release dates.

now take A look at this:

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/4634/tc25as.jpg

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/3429/tc33yu.jpg

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/9641/tc40zp.jpg

some lines are smooth and straight,
some boxes are smooth and straight,

but what really bothers me, are some lines and boxes with terrible cutting edges. there must be A way to make the hole map look smooth and tight

your video card's default setting is Antialiasing: "application controlled". meaning, if the program of game's setting says antialiasing 4x, then you wont see and jaggies. But, if the game doesnt have the setting or it is off in the game, you either turn it up or enable it from your video card's control panel. And trust me, those screenies arent showing you everything, those were taken from very high resolutions then the screenies were shrunken down to viewable sizes. I have played KAL Online and I still saw some jaggies and a number of imperfections. technically its just like any old 1999-2001 game but has alot more graphical effects to cover up the old look.

Q3 has not the best graphics, put it on full, put anti ailiasing on full, ansd that's as good as it gets without re-working teh entire engine. which is
1 illegal, you are taking an engine that is NOT free (the standard Q3)* and you are modifying it and distributing it without a licence
2. takes litterally thousands of ines of code to be made/modified in order for that
and
3. people like me with not-the-best graphics cards will just have to turn it down.

*yes, ET engine is free, but in order to do this, you need to modify the BASE coding from Q3/RTCW, and these are not free and it can cause legal issues.

actually Q3E is a freeware under the GPL. The ET engine isnt under gpl so making any big changes to the soruce code is illegal. You can make a mod for the ET engine but that only affects the game's source code not the engine. As for Q3E, you canupgrade the engine to your liking, make your own games, but your not allowed to make money.

A higher poly count will smooth things out too.

Dragon, you are comparing pictures of fields and hills to buildings. It's not a valid comparison.

Get us some pictures of castles and building interiors.

KAL online also excessively uses bloom. it has bloom on practically everything making things a bit blurry and soft like looking into the sun on some TCE maps. that also rids the jaggies effect since the bloom effect isnt a virtual model made up of pixels and bitmap textures.

But really...

I dont get it,
there are tools/game-source to make the game look extremely realistic,
like " Texture Tone Mapping"
but why arent there any tools, game source or whatever, to reduce or camoflouge the cutting edges in the game,
there must be a way or method,
maybe add a tiny bit gloom/blurr in the game,
maybe that will help to reduce the cutting edges,

check out this link below, you will see a trailer of game, and you will notice that the devs of this game used a tiny little bit gloom/blurry in the game,
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php? ... e&type=wmv

adding those effects to an engine that doesnt even use to same programming language isnt exactly as easy as it sounds. all Idsoftware engines from Q3 blow use QuakeC language, Doom3 uses C++ that mean they had to reprogram and rewrite everything from scratch. The originally planned to upgrade the Q3 engine for doom3, but to much work had to be done so they scrapped it. So far, bloom effects are available in TCE but making it appear on everything isnt very good, it will noly cause lagg like what KAL online gets.

the laggs in kal online isnt because of the gloom,
matter of fact, you can turn gloom off, and you would still have laggs,

the reason that there are laggs is because sometimes an erea gets really crowded,

and the second reason why, is because there are some bugs,
allot of mmorpg's have the same issue's

not all mmos get that kind of lagg. its unimaginable how you turn everything off and youll still get lagg in the middle of nowhere where there isnt even a single npc. Turning of the bloom feature gives additions + 10 fps that goes up and down depending on where you are. TCE with bloom may seem good, but only for some situations. If you want to get rid of jaggies, play on a higher resolution and turn on Antialiasing 6x on your videocard (if your video card do 6x and can handle the stress).

like i said even if you have a powerful video card, you still see cutting edges,

and you know whats funny about kal online,
you dont even have to change your video settings,
and you absolutely see no cutting edges in the game.
