Post subject:  BF2 PC upgrade

Ok, my current system is not a great gaming machine, although I can play TC:E on medium to high. Im lookin to upgrade so I can play BF2 on a budget. I was wondering if this setup would play BF2 on medium or better?

P4 2.8(all my mobo can take)
1.5 or 2 gb ram(2 gb max)
Radeon 9250 256MB 128-bit DDR AGP 2X/4X(my mobo is 2x/4x) New egg Link

My current setup

P4 1.9
512mb ram
Nvidia GeForce2 MX400

Iv read that you can use a 4x/8x in a 2x/4x mobo as long as the card is backwards compatible...but I would hate to get a card and have it not be compatible. Also it would only run at your mobo's highest(4x). [/url]

If I were you, I would ditch getting a new processor, and go for a better video card + around the same (but possibly less) RAM.

I can play BF2 at around medium, and I'm running...

1.5ghz AMD Sempron
640mb of DDR RAM
GeForce FX5500 256MB AGP 8x

Your memory and video (mostly video) need MUCH more love than your processor, trust me.

What would be the best AGP card for around $200, that can play BF2? in your opinion

I ran a geforce 7600, 256 mb, in a x2/x4 agp slot with no problems. Matter o fact, I didn't even use all of the bandwidth on the AGP port.

AGPx8 can fit in an agp x2/x4 slot. I would recommend a Gefroces 5500 or 6200. Both are in the same price range. However, if you want to keep up with gaming,I would recommended saving your money and work toward buying a new comp. You can get one that is will be upgradeable to next gen for 250$, which will allow you to take your time on fixing up a comp. IMO, upgrading a comp with agp is more of a waist of money. It would be like buying food for a hamster that has had its flesh eaten off by ants, eyes slash and coated with lemon juice, and the hamsters daughter and mother left home to become strippers, how for a little extra money would be willing to do a lot more than strip.

Your hamster analogy had me laughing my balls off. poor, poor, hamsters.

You shouldn't need a 512, your going to be bottle necked by your processor. Also, a 6800 is just as good as a 7600, in the same price range. You may be able to find a good deal on a 6800. (I pick geforces because i don't know much about ATI families)

My computer cost me around $1200 CND. I have an AMD Opteron 144, 1gb ram, and an X700Pro. BF2 and BF2142 (especially) runs really good. Go to www.firingsquad.com , they have a guide that helps people who are new to building computers build a $1000 gaming rig that should be more than sufficient for what you wanted.

Thanks, I'll have to check into that. I just built my friend a gaming rig for around 1000. P4 3.2, 7950ko, 2gb. Ram was a steal on Newegg, nearly doubled in price after he bought it. Rig Plays Bf2 maxed. Thats what got me hooked on BF2. I'm yet to play Americas Army on it, hopefully tomorrow. I used to play AA on my pile but 2.7 runs like anus on my comp. I should prolly just wait it out and build a new rig.

Oh yeah 2.8

AA 2.8 may seem that it's system requirements are lower than BF2, trust me BF2 will run 200% better than AA on any computer.

Oh, I checked to see if it was out about 2 days ago and it was still 2.7. I don't think its worth downloading 2.8 or any version for that matter. lol

Anybody heard of this game. Doesn't look to bad. The multiplayer demo just came out today. http://www.armedassault.com/

Turns out its form the creators of Op. Flashpoint. Iv played flashpoint on PC and XBOX and I was not a fan of it at all. Hopefully they improved this game.

IDK, but imagine something of that sort for the Wii.
