Post subject:  French people and English :P

In a previous thread, I started to talk about the *little problem* we, french people, have with foreign languages, especially the "international" one, I mean English...

We are using phonems which are not used a lot in most of the languages, especially some produced with the nose (in, an, on) and the ones with accents (e, é, è, ê)...
But in the same time, we don't use a lot we can find in english for example, like 'th' in 'the'...

We are dubbing all the movies/series because we are a lot lazy to read subtitles.
So we aren't used to listen to english, unlike in Greece for example (no dubbing except cartoons for children).
And about songs, we are listening to them without to care about the lyrics...
That's why we like english songs: we don't understand them!
Maybe because we are already used to do it with french songs which are a lot boring ^^

In a country where people are not all able to speak/write correctly their own language, don't expect them too much to do it with another one.

Now let's have fun :P
Here are some pieces of french movies, you will see it's not a new problem

The lesson of English (Le Gendarme A New York - 1965) - Louis de Funès

"Yes my Lord" (Fantômas - 1965) - Louis de Funès

"I would like to buy a hamburger" (The Pink Panther - 2007) - John Cleese
Note John Cleese is british and mimics a lot nice french accent ^^

Have fun :)
