Post subject:  Basic Windows Server Setup

I just thought I'd write a quick setup guide for TCE Windows servers.

Suggested OS - Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 Server. I wouldnt use 95, 98, or ME

Connection should be T1 or better for 16 players, cable modems dont cut it in most cases.

Have the latest ET (2.60) and TCE installed as normal.

The command to start the TCE server should look similar to this ...

C:\Enemy Territory\ETDED.exe +set dedicated 2 +set fs_game tce +set net_ip 111.222.333.444 +set net_port 27960 +set com_hunkMegs 128 +exec server.cfg

Please note, the ETDED.EXE was new in the ET 2.60 patch. It is more efficient for dedicated servers.

See the part that says fs_game tce? That tells the program to run the stuff in the tce folder, the beta versions were called tcetest. I assume the full version will just be tce.

I hope this helps any admins who are new to Quake 3 based game servers, it took me a while to figure this stuff out over 3 years ago for the first time. :)

If you are using a firewall the following ports need to be open to allow people to see your server and connect to it.

27950 - 27965 TCP (For the master list)
27950 - 27965 UDP (For the actual game communication)

Some other web sites out there give different ports but these are the ones you need open. These do not include the Gamespy ports if you need those, most people dont.

Some console commands admins should know ...

/ref password (sets you as the referee)
/rconpassword password (full rcon access)
/rcon pb_sv_plist (shows the player list and the Punkbuster Player ID)
/rcon pb_sv_ban # (ban a user with the number using the previous command)

There are many different firewalls out there, and I dont know how to specifically use Sygate. Try their support section. http://www.sygate.com/support/index.htm

And you're welcome Traumahawk. :)
